COUGAR SPEECH TEAM
The Cougar Speech Team invites you to join our tradition of excellence in the forensic arts.
Please check out this link for more updated information on the team.
Speech Team is an activity made up of thirteen different public speaking categories. These categories vary widely from dramatic interpretation to public address to round table discussion. We can easily say that we have the most diverse group of students in any one activity in the school. There is truly a category that will fit each person.
**Students generally pick one category per season and work to perfect one
performance piece. More advanced students may choose to compete in more than one category.
Interpretation Categories: Minnesota State High School League Rules
Public Address Categories
Cougar Speech Team is a member of the National Forensic League, an honor society for speech/forensics. Members are able to earn awards and pins that represent excellence in the area of public speaking. Many of our most respected national statesmen and women as well as media celebrities were members of NFL.
Speech Team is a MN State High School League activity, therefore being a member of the Cougar Speech Team requires you to read, sign, and abide by the rules governing all high school competitors. You must return a signed copy of the eligibility form to the activity office before you can compete.
The $160.00 fee required by District 77 is on par with a major sport. The district pays for all of our transportation, entry fees and judges for each tournament. See tournament schedule. Junior High students should contact Mr. Quame in the junior high office
** Families who participate in the free / reduced lunch program will not be assessed a fee. Any student who wishes to participate in speech, but is unable to pay the full fee should see Ms. Urtel; there are opportunities for scholarship within the speech team. Please do not make money the issue for not participating on this team.
***Practices: Practice helps speakers perform to their optimum. We want you all to be successful. We practice on Tuesday and Thursday every week from 5-7 unless otherwise notified. Each student will be assigned a time with a coach on one of these days as well as speech buddies who will help each other cut, practice and learn their performance piece.
