Mankato Area Public Schools offers a comprehensive curriculum with differentiated programming options for all levels of learners. A results-based continuous improvement process is utilized to monitor curriculum content and instructional design to ensure that our students' learning meets all required Minnesota Academic Standards.

Elementary Curriculum
Mankato Area Public Schools' elementary experience provides a foundation for learning for all students. Beginning in kindergarten, students learn a wide variety of skills necessary to give students options for life. We focus on foundational skills in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. In addition, art, music, physical education and health, and media and technology play an important role in our students' ability to think creatively, globally, and in a healthy manner. Our staff works to ensure that all students learn at high levels and meet their fullest potential.
Middle School
Mankato Area Public Schools' middle school experience reflects the attributes identified within a middle school model that supports the success of young adolescents. The middle school model establishes a mentor relationship between teacher and student, creates a small community of learners, and implements a flexible interdisciplinary curriculum that encourages active and personalized learning. Mankato middle school students continue to develop their skills and knowledge in the core areas of English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, and Health.
In addition to the core classes, students have a wide variety of educational experiences in the exploratory classes of Art; Communications; Family and Consumer Science; Project Lead the Way; Physical Education; and Music. Accelerated offerings and differentiated instruction allow students' needs to be met at individualized levels. Our staff works to ensure that all students learn at high levels and meet their fullest potential.To accomplish this, they use ongoing formative assessments and work in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to analyze student data to address individual needs.
High School
Mankato Area Public Schools' high school experience provides students with the opportunity to maximize their learning and ensure options for life. In addition to traditional course offerings, students have a wide variety of electives from which to choose. Mankato Area Public Schools is proud to offer Advanced Placement courses and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID). We offer students the opportunity to earn post-secondary credit through Advanced Placement offerings or Articulated Courses, which provide technical college credit to students while still in high school. Our staff works to ensure that all students learn at high levels and meet their fullest potential. To accomplish this, they use ongoing formative assessments and work in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to analyze student data to address individual needs. Graduation Requirements
All high school students need to meet the following graduation requirements to earn a high school diploma.
Participation in the Mankato High School commencement ceremony is limited to those students who have completed all graduation requirements prior to Commencement or will complete them by attending District 77 summer school. There are no exceptions to this policy.

Online Learning
What is Mankato Area Public Schools Online School?
Mankato Area Public Schools is an approved supplemental online provider that offers courses to students in grades 9-12th. An approved supplemental online program allows students to take up to but not more than three online courses at a time. These virtual classes are an option for all Minnesota students who can work independently, are focused, and looking for a flexible schedule. MAPS online school is also a great way to supplement your high school experience with classes not offered at your current school.

This course will provide students with knowledge and exposure to mind/body activities, along with stress management, including metabolic conditioning activities that can increase their ability and understanding of the human body. The purpose of Active Living is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to prepare for an active lifestyle. This class will build upon student knowledge and understanding from the F.I.T.T. principle as it applies to a lifelong commitment to fitness.
Cardio for Life

The purpose of Cardio for Life is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to prepare for an active cardiovascular lifestyle. Cardio for Life will build upon student knowledge and understanding of the F.I.T.T. principle for cardiovascular endurance and flexibility. The course will provide students with opportunities for individual and group fitness activities to increase their cardiovascular health.
Online courses will have face to face requirements as determined by the instructor.

This course offers the student the opportunity to view critical current health issues and problems with an emphasis on the role of the individual in society. When students complete this course, they will understand the interconnections between health promotion and prevention/risk reduction behaviors. They will have an understanding of how to access valid and reliable information that helps in making health-related decisions. Students will correlate the influences of media and technological advance to health maintenance and disease prevention. Completion of Health is required for graduation.

Spanish I students develop communication skills to be able to meet basic communication needs in a variety of situations. Students learn the beginning of the Spanish language structure built around a basic working vocabulary. Eight themes involving practical Spanish usage address interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational applications of the language. In addition, students gain an understanding of Latin American and Spanish ways of life.

The purpose of Strength for the Journey is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to prepare for an active lifestyle. Strength for the Journey will build upon student knowledge and understanding of the F.I.T.T. principle as it applies to muscular strength and endurance. The course will provide students with knowledge and exposure to individual and group activities that can increase their strength and mobility health. Aquatic survival skills, CPR, and prevention/care of injuries are required components of this course. Online courses will have face to face requirements as determined by the instructor.
